A FREE family event!  Come visit our renowned family area – packed full of fun.  Learn all about nature and the amazing things that we can find as close as our own backyard.  Enjoy crafts, games, and many other activities geared toward families with children. Too great to miss!

Bird Walks

Saturday 8:30a and 10:00a

Another FREE thing!  For the novice birder, both young and young at heart.  All will learn the basics of birding, like how to use a field guide and a pair of binoculars (available for use). So join us, open your eyes, and be hooked for life!


Student Art and Writing Contest

Awards Ceremony:  Sunday 1:30p-2:30p

Draw Valley birds, write about Valley birds, and learn the fun way. The contest is open to students grades 5 –12 Valley wide!  Win great prizes from Eagle Optics and see the winning entries in the Valley Morning Star!

The Raptor Project Elementary School Program

Friday 9:00a-10:00a

This wonderful, action filled program is available to schools throughout the Valley, and it’s FREE.  Come see “The American Birdman,” Jonathan Wood and his magnificent birds of prey (more above)!  You might even meet an avian movie star or two!  A popular offering, so make reservations quickly.  Call the Harlingen Convention and Visitors Bureau at 956-423-5440 to guarantee your class and school a spot!


Feathers are Way Cool High School Program

Thursday 1:30p-2:30p

Feathers sport so many zany patterns, textures, shapes, colors—did you know that they can look blue when they’re not? In a special program for area high school students, Ildiko Szabo, Honorary Assistant Curator of the Cowan Vertebrate Collection, will talk about a myriad of other way cool feather tricks.  Extremely limited seating available.  Check with the Harlingen Convention and Visitors Bureau at 956-423-5440.
